Not exactly the best survival game I've played but Three Days has its own charm I guess.
The game starts off with an introduction, letting me know that my character is possibly a crew member aboard a submarine, which somehow sank (yes, pun totally intended). I end up stranded on an island and for some reason, I only have 3 days to escape from it. Why 3? Don't ask me!
Anyway, I managed to survive up til the very last day, but I'm still nowhere near building a boat to escape the island - haven't discovered the "recipe" for that yet.
+ Love how you have to "discover" crafting recipes yourself, but you all know that sooner or later, you'll just go wiki it up and find all the recipes online... like what I did in Minecraft :P
+ Interesting crafting system based on an alchemy-style gameplay - think Little Alchemy where you start with 4 elements and discover new stuff from there.
+ Resources respawn reasonably quickly
- No inventory - You never think about the importance of having an inventory until you had to drag stuff from another side of the map to the base you've set up. Unnecessarily tedious.
- No pausing the game - Make sure you have your toilet break before you start playing!
* Chop down a tree and craft Woodstock (wood+stick) and destroy a stone to craft Firestarter (flint+rockshard). Chop down some more trees and then start gathering some food.
* For water, you'll want to get a Spade (stick+rockshard) and then, walk close enough to your space in order to see a line linking your character to the Spade. Move the spade to any patch of ground to "dig" and get Sandstone. Your Spade will be destroyed in the process.
* Once you have a fire going, dump the Sandstone in the fire and it'll turn into Glass Bottle (per Sandstone) for some reason. Drag and drop the bottle to any nearby patch of water, and then drag an drop the bottle of seawater to the fire again to purify it.
* The best weapon I think is the Spike. To get it, simply craft a Spear (stick+flint) and then add another stick to the Spear. You can click, hold and wave the Spikes around to kill those night creatures, but just make sure you don't accidentally walk into one of your Spikes. They can hurt quite a bit.
Note that although the game is more of a NO than a YES for me, I still think that fans of hardcore survival games would still want to give this game a try.

Pros:
+ Can be really hardcore - even by playing on Easy mode, I still died a whole lot of times until I've found a way to quench my character's thirst.+ Love how you have to "discover" crafting recipes yourself, but you all know that sooner or later, you'll just go wiki it up and find all the recipes online... like what I did in Minecraft :P
+ Interesting crafting system based on an alchemy-style gameplay - think Little Alchemy where you start with 4 elements and discover new stuff from there.
+ Resources respawn reasonably quickly
Cons:
- One of the most innovative (alchemy-style) yet worstly-implemented crafting system ever. There are plenty of times when... and I never thought I'd say this... "accidental crafting" occured.- No inventory - You never think about the importance of having an inventory until you had to drag stuff from another side of the map to the base you've set up. Unnecessarily tedious.
- No pausing the game - Make sure you have your toilet break before you start playing!
Tip:
* If you're just starting, just go with Easy mode and save yourself a ton of frustration. Don't get me wrong... it's still frustrating to play at first but once you find out how to keep your character happy and to keep away those creatures of the night, then the game gets markedly more interesting.* Chop down a tree and craft Woodstock (wood+stick) and destroy a stone to craft Firestarter (flint+rockshard). Chop down some more trees and then start gathering some food.
