This is, without a doubt, one of the most unique and intriguing puzzle-adventure games I've played in quite a while! Let me tell you why...

Storyline
Anna's Quest puts a young girl called Anna (thanks capt obvious!) in the front and center of a pretty sad storyline.

Spoiler alert!!! - Her grandpa, whom she lives with all her life, suddenly fell ill and she was forced to venture out from her familiar and comfortable home at the farm in search of a cure. In her journey, she fell prey to an evil witch's (Winfriede) ploy and found herself imprisoned due to her innocence and her tendency to trust everyone she meets.

During her captivity, she discovered that she possessed telekinetic powers and was able to use it to eventually escape from the house she's trapped in. However, Winfriede was not about to just throw her hands up and give up. She pursued the poor girl even as she continued her quest in search of a cure for her grandpa.

Her quest led her to the town of Wunderhorn where she was told by the "local" sorceress (who's impersonating as the Wizard of Wunderhorn) to collect certain magical objects for the cure. Little did she know, the sorceress was none other than Winfriede in disguise. Apparently, the witch had taken on the appearance of a princess (I think) and was about to marry the King, whom she had befundled into thinking that he loves her.

Anna was caught and thrown into the jail under the future Queen's order and it is there in the bowels of persumably "Hell", since the person in charge there is the Devil himself, she discovered that she might not be as innocent as she thinks she is. Due to circumstances, she had to do a variety of stuff that an innocent person would never do, from trapping the witch in her own home to stealing from a grumpy antique shopkeeper. Personally, this relevation is my favourite part in the game!

Anyway, she managed to get the help of the real Wizard of Wunderhorn and other prisoners, and helped secure the release for all the prisoners, including herself. She's determined more than ever to save the kingdom and the King from the hold Winfriede has on him, knowing that dark times would come if Winfriede is crowned Queen. However, to do so, she'll need more support on her side - who'd rally behind a mere farm girl, even one as gifted in telekinesis as she is, right? - and she sets off to find the missing Queen Jannike and restore her to her rightful place beside the King.

Gameplay
Honestly, I enjoyed most of the problem-solving-style puzzles in this game. Most of them involve finding the correct items to use on other items/ on certain areas in a scene... though sometimes, you may need to use Anna's telekinesis powers on either the item in the scene or the item in your inventory instead. Oh, don't forget to "View" (right click) any item you suspect can be picked up first before attempting to pick it up, and you'll also want to pick up anything you can get your hands on. They will always come in handy sooner or later.

I'd say, most of the time, the puzzles are rather logical in its own weird-kind of way and you'll probably be able to eventually figure out what the game expects you to do, but do expect these puzzles to be very challenging at times - there are plenty of moments where I'll just go "F it" and go play something else or search for a walkthrough online. There are a couple of parts in the game that I find completely illogical (though I suppose clues were given). Stumbled upon one of them pretty early on, when Anna's trying to escape from the witch's house - The part where you need to use the witch's hat with the party trick book to make a handkerchief chain so you can climb to the roof.

I was stuck at this part of the game for a pretty long while... and that would have ended my experience with this game if not for walkthroughs :P

Oh, and a quick tip: I do find that taking a break and returning to the game later helps to give some extra perspective to the puzzles. Give it a try - it might help!

Graphics and Sound
Love the art style, and the graphics are pretty much flawless here. The music is really nice and the characters in the game are voiced as well. The voice acting may sometimes sound similar, especially when it comes to the many different male characters in the game, but I guess this might just be me... nitpicking on stuff.

Overall
Anna's Quest is one of those unconventional puzzle-adventures that has a storyline that just lures you in, but it has plenty of puzzles to make getting to the next part of the story so much harder. Expect plenty of frustration if you refuse to use a walkthrough. However, once you've managed to figure out what you need to do, that "Ah ha!" moment can be exquisitely satisfying. Worth the rush of endorphins that you'll get as a reward, that's for sure!
