I find it strange this game is so highly rated. While I did eventually start enjoying it, early game in DSG is rather stressful - you spend much of each month living very close to the edge thanks to high bills and screwing up the first handful of races thanks to the rather janky treat-tossing mechanic. By the time you have some breathing room, you'll be starting to save up for the pricey kennel expansion and eventually hiring employees...which means soon enough you're back to living on the edge of bankruptcy. I strongly suggest should you buy the game that staying in League 1 for a good while until you have some cash saved up is a wise move.
As you get better at the treat-tossing mechanic you'll eventually have no problem keeping your team boosted through most races, so the game does become fun at this point. I now look forward to the next race instead of dreading it, especially after having added new dogs to the team and competing against seasoned vets with a few new guys and still beating them.
The soundtrack is super irritating so you'll probably turn it off early on, but the other ambient noises do the job. Control-wise, everything is done with your mouse which works alright. There is a story of sorts, but up around Day 250 it ends without a real conclusion for some reason.
While I now like Dog Sled Saga, there are still issues with it. I had my original save disappear, and my second attempt at playing refused to unlock any achievements so I had to restart. Both of these issues were known to the developers but never fixed, so I'd suggest backing up your save when quitting to make sure you don't lose progress.
Worth a buy if it's around $2 or $3, but the $9 CAD it goes for regularly is way too steep.
