Good things:

I like the idea and world presented where we are just a cleaning crew worker and suddenly we find that the chief of the corporation is mutating workers like us into a giant potatoes and then make ink from that potatoes. Ink is people! At least I think that is what the story is about.

Most of the levels are fun, challenging but also fair. I also like how the level names refer pop culture. I like the mechanics as each level teaches you new things and once in a while you find new power to use. At start you can only jump but later you find water that you can shot out and use it to kill enemies and operate many different machines. After a while you find a red ink that lets you stick to floor or walls or ceiling and later you find yellow ink that lets you bounce really high. I like that there is a good time to use each of these inks but you can also experiment a little and instead of using the red one to get up a wall you can just use yellow one to bounce up the wall. I also liked that I can play with a keyboard or gamepad and both are working fine. While the game recommends gamepad I didn’t feel that it was in any way better than keyboard.

I also like the graphic and presentation of the game and that to get to new level you need to find the right door in the Inkorp Hall. It was also fun, rewarding and challenging to rescue all the employees in each level and each level has it’s own theme graphic wise. These levels really feel like part of a big corporation. Also I like the music in the game as it was making you wanna listen to it and play fast to reflect the music with your playstyle.

Bad things:

The biggest problem for me was controls and there is no way to rebind them. I tried using the gamepad but it felt the same as playing on the keyboard because you use the same buttons for moving and aiming and it created many strange moments for me and I was never able to get used to that controls. Aiming and walking with the same buttons just made me fall many times from small platforms etc. and it was just strange when you need to shot some spots but also move to some other place at the same time like in last level when I had to move up and up but also had to shot left and right all the time. I think that putting moving and aiming on the same buttons is just a bad idea and the game would be much better if aiming was separated from moving.

I also hated that the last level and a few during the game were just super frustrating. While most levels were challenging but felt fair there were a few really frustrating where pressing one button at the not exactly perfect time meant you will just die. Because of that there were some parts in levels that I had to do 30 or more times to get to a checkpoint. I can’t even imagine anyone doing 3 different types of speedruns for this game with no deaths to get all achievements because of these few levels. You would probably have to spend hundreds of hours to remember each level and learn how to move in them quickly without dying.

Conclusion

It is a good platformer game with interesting mechanics but it also can be frustrating from time to time. The controls are strange and hard to get used to.

Overall score 5.5/10
