Undead Horde is an action-adventure game mixed with RPG, hack-and-slash, and light RTS elements.
As you clear the various areas, you resurrect different types of defeated enemies and bosses and build your army. There is a base location known as the crypt. You can consider it a safe house, where you store and purchase a variety of weapons and elements. This location is also used to replenish your health and make an army of undead to your liking.
All the areas have different types of quests, loot, and secret locations. These locations vary in the environment and design, i.e., forest, dungeon, ice, lava, fortress, etc.
The story is there just for the sake of it. The voiceover is minimal. You will mostly do the reading when the story element comes up. It doesn't take itself seriously. So, I had a good laugh during some conversations.
The soundtracks are appropriate for the map environments and serve their purpose, but they are quite limited. The sound is done well.
Traversing between locations is easy. The player's movements and controls felt smooth.
The gameplay felt repetitive after the halfway mark. But it didn't bore me that much since the game design and premise are quite good.
There was a second playthrough starting from the beginning, and the player level carried forward from the first playthrough. But that was too much for my liking, so I closed the game at that point.
Getting 100% of the achievements requires 12–14 hours (it can be achieved in the first playthrough, as I did). Otherwise, just going through the campaign may take 8–9 hours.
Overall, it was a positive experience, and I had some fun with this one.
If you are not afraid of some grind, then this is worth checking out.
I would recommend getting it during a sale.
My verdict: 7/10
